What is PBIS?
PBIS is an acronym for Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports. It is a school wide program in which teachers, students, parents, and all staff work together to maintain a safe learning community by focusing on positive behavior. School behavior is taught directly and students are recognized when they display positive behavior. With PBIS, students will know exactly what is expected of them wherever they are at school.
Newport Behavior Expectations
At Newport School we expect students to:
1. Take Responsibility
2. Respect Themselves and Others
3. Stay Safe
They are trained in what these expectations mean in the classroom, hallways, bathrooms, playground, lunchroom, and on bus in the beginning of each year. Students are retrained as needed throughout the school year. Please see our PBIS matrix to see what our expectations mean in each area of the school.
